A NEAR PAIR OF SOUTH GERMAN FIGURED WALNUT AND CROSSBANDED BUREAUXMID 18TH CENTURYEach with a hinged fall opening to four short drawerseach 91cm high, 86cm wide, 54cm deepProvenance:Property from a Private Collection, London.Condition Report: Both with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Various old splits and chips - see images. Losses to veneers and mouldings in places throughout. Old veneer repairs. Some warping to timber and veneers in various places. Evidence of old worm throughout, with filler used to help disguise in various places. The locks and escutcheons to the falls are replaced. Replacement timber has been applied to the interior of the fall to cover the new lock plates. Some ink stains to the interiors of the falls. One bureau with later hessian and a supporting block to the interior of the drawers. Handles and escutcheons to drawer are old replacements. The locks to the drawers appear to be original. No key is present but all locks are open. The backs of the bureaux have been later veneered and have later moulding applied to the lower edge. This veneer is thinner than the original veneer elsewhere and has a darker/reddish colour. One bureau with two replacement rear legs. The two front legs with various old significant filler repairs. The legs to the other bureau all appear original. The top of one rear leg has a replacement block of timber, and one front leg has a spliced repair to the pad foot. All have filler repairs. The legs to both bureaux are secured using later screws, nails, and supporting blocks. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
