[ translate ]

A NEO-GREC PATINATED AND GILT METAL "LADY LIBERTY" MOUNTED MARBLE MANTLE CLOCK, FRENCH, CIRCA 1870, the patinated spelter metal figure of the goddess Liberty or Marianne, wearing a Phrygian cap and long classical robes over her slightly curvaceous body while she holds a cluster of arrows in her left hand close to her bosom, opposite her right holding aloft a three sectioned swinging rod and circular gilt bronze framed glass pendulum, standing on a textured gilt bronze socle fitted within a gilt collar on a square form black marble cavetto and conforming case, with corner spandrels of delicately incised scrolling foliate stems centering a leaf tip modeled circular bezel, enclosing an open faced black enamel ring dial with gilt Roman chapters and hands over twin key escapements, before a face revealing various mechanism parts and numbered "217," reversing to the interior brass clock works stamped "BREVET / GLT / SG DG," flanked on the exterior by gilt metal textured lion masks suspending loop handles, above a square form molded plinth with matching gilt incised decoration and raised on pierced curling leafy tendril paw feet. Height: 26" Width: 10 1/4" Depth: 9 1/4" Provenance: Lifelong Collection of Clocks and Antiques, Navasota, Texas
Condition Report: The black marble case has expected surface buildup, some tiny edge nicks, and general light wear. The gilt metal mounts are in good shape with some having small oxidized spots and bezel lacks glass cover. The spelter figure has areas of flaking patination, light scratches, repairs, and surface buildup. The open dial face was probably covered at one time. Simpson Galleries does not guarantee any clock or timepiece mechanism. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
