A NINGXIA CARPET, WEST CHINA
mid 18th century
approximately 266 by 171cm; 8ft. 9in., 5ft. 7in
Condition Report:
PLEASE NOTE DIMENSIONS SHOULD READ 171CM (5FT. 7IN) WIDE. Lovely soft, lustrous wool and flexible handle. Pile evenly sheared, 2 mm in depth, with taupe slightly oxidised and some track wear to knot bars down right hand side. Spot repiling, done some years ago and now faded (generally visible in the illustration as lavender grey rather than indigo blue, see for example about 2/5ths of way up on right hand side in pearl border). Area of discolouration just to left of centre third cloud up - might improve with cleaning. Both ends have blanket stitch overlocking , blue guard at top end with minute losses and tips of top left and bottom right hand corners restored . Side cords seem to be original. A very pretty carpet.
