A NORTHWEST PERSIAN OR AZERBAIJAN GALLERY CARPET

mid 19th century
with a Caucasian Kyrdagyd design, and unusual golden ochre field; the ivory border with crisply drawn crosses with scroll-ends
approximately 435 by 162cm; 14ft. 3in., 5ft. 4in.

Condition Report:
Pile generally fair, with low pile in bands of darker yellow, probably associated with oxidisation. Wear to foundation in localised areas in motifs in upper border. Repiling to right hand side of upper medallion pendent. End guards rebuilt, side cords reovercast. An unusual example employing motifs from Caucasian models, for example the polychrome interlace rosettes in the border and of course the Kyrdagyd design, whilst the medallion recalls Serapi weavings.
