A New York Coin Silver Tea Service, Mark of John L. Gale
circa 1820, retailed by B. & J. Cooper of New York, the four piece service including a teapot (9 x 11 x 4 1/4 in.), sugar bowl with cover, creamer and waste bowl. Each with inset band of die-rolled grape vine border, the sugar bowl and teapot cover each feature an acorn finial, period script monogram "MGB" to fronts, each raised on four hairy paw feet.

John Lee Gale was born in Goshen, New York in 1789. He worked circa 1808-1835 as a silversmith in New York City. In 1826, he was working as a partner with William Gale. After 1835, he moved to Plano, Illinois and continued working as a silversmith.
B. & J. Cooper were listed as gunsmiths in the early 19th century New York Directories.

Condition Report: The teapot with dent to top of handle and loose pins; denting and some tears to handles of creamer and sugar bowl; each piece with scattered denting and pinpoint dents; waste bowl with slight wobble.
