This rare small map of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean was published in the March 1762 issue of Gentleman's & London Magazine. The southern part of the present-day United States is divided into the following territories: New Mexico, Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida. Place names include New Orleans, Mobile, Savannah, and Ft. Louis (Fort Saint-Louis), the settlement founded in present-day Texas in 1685 by French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier de La Salle. The southern tip of Florida fragments into an archipelago. Mexico is divided into its states. The map extends through Central America to the northern part of South America, and east to include all the Windward Islands. Routes are delineated from Vera Cruz and Cartagena to Havana, and from Spain to Cartagena. The map is adorned with a decorative title cartouche in the top right corner, and a compass rose and distance scale in the bottom left corner. No engraver's signature, but similar to John Gibson's An Accurate Map of the West Indies, with the Adjacent Coast, published the same year in Gentleman's Magazine.
