A Northern Italian halberd, circa 1600
Quadrangular thrusting spike with a decorative ball at the base. Axe blade with a strongly concave edge and five pierced roundels. On the reverse, a curved raven's beak with an additional upward-drawn thrusting tine, a smith's mark struck on the right side. Angular socket with a reinforcing ring and four recessed langets. Front and rear langets very short, shaft riveted to the end of the long side straps. The lowest rivet of a side strap loose, the uppermost rivets on both sides backed with decorative rosettes of brass. Original shaft with an octagonal cross-section. Foot with an iron reinforcing ring, spike missing. Length 246 cm.
