A PAIR OF CARVED WOOD, PAINTED AND SILVERED ARMCHAIRSONE CIRCA 1700, THE OTHER A LATER COPYEach with rectangular upholstered backs and seats covered in green damask, on scrolling supports with shaped stretchers108cm high, 66cm wide, 63cm deepProvenance: Supplied by Robert KimeCondition Report: Both with marks, knocks, scratches, and abrasions. Old splits and chips. Upholstery in good order overall with just some minor wear and 'pulls'. Both chairs structurally solid. As illustrated, the painted surface to both chairs is in an attractively distressed condition, with various rubbing, losses, and wear. The period chair:Some remnants of previous surfaces, including gilt and gesso.One rear foot replaced. Small sections of replacement timber inset to each side of the rear stretcher. The underside of the central stretcher with evidence old worm and later supporting bracing. Small section of replacement timber inset into one arm. Second chair:Both rear feet replaced. Some evidence of old worm to the underside of the stretcher and rear feet. Small sections of replacement timber inset to each side of the rear stretcher.
