Description: A PAIR OF CHINESE HUANGHUALI SPINDLE-BACK 'MEIGUI-YI' CHAIRS
QING DYNASTY (1644-1912), CIRCA 17TH/18TH CENTURY
Of gently tapered form, with spindle inset arms and backs, the arch-shaped aprons with fine beading along the edge, and with square-section legs. The seats have been later modified to remove the previous woven cane seats and replaced with hardwood panels.
90.5cm high, 54cm wide, 45cm deep

PROVENANCE:
Purchased by the vendor in Hong Kong in the 1990s.

Condition:

Condition: Seats later modified, the original cane seats having been replaced with hardwood panels. Evidence of slight shortening to each of the legs. Refinished at the time of the seat replacement.
