A PAIR OF CLOISONNE ENAMEL 'CHRYSANTHEMUM' BOXES AND COVERS, FIRST HALF OF 19TH CENTURY

China. Each of circular cushion form and supported on a short, slightly spreading foot, finely enameled to the domed cover with a central roundel enclosing colorful chrysanthemum blossoms borne on leafy stems against a bright red ground, encircled by peonies and butterflies, above further peonies to the sides of the box and a band of classic scroll to the foot, the rims gilt. (2)

Provenance: British trade.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and manufacturing irregularities including expected pitting. Small nicks, light scratches, minute dents, minor losses, old fills.

Weight: 213.2 g and 201.9 g
Dimensions: Diameter 8.5 cm and 8.6 cm
