A PAIR OF DOUCAI 'DRAGON' DISHES, 18TH CENTURY

Each dish is decorated in the center with a five-clawed, iron-red dragon amidst clouds encircled by four iron-red carp swimming on top of waves. The exterior is decorated with a band of similar green waves and the base is inscribed with an apocryphal Chenghua mark.
6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm.) diam.

CONDITION REPORT:
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.

One dish:
-The dish has been broken in half and restuck with staples, which now holes filled in.
- There are a few other restored areas, and another small restuck section.
-There are a few restored shallow chips to the mouth rim with associated areas of overpainting.
-There are nicks and chips to the foot rim.

Other dish:
-There are chips to the mouth rim, some of which have been restored.
-There are three hairlines extending from the mouth rim.
-There are a few areas of overpanting to the mouth rim, and another area of overspray near the mouth rim.
-There are a few burst glaze bubbles and kiln grit adhesions to the foot.
-There are small nicks to the foot rim, one of which has been restored.
