A PAIR OF GEORGE III CARVED GILTWOOD WALL MIRRORS CIRCA 1765each 120cm high, 55cm wide Provenance: Private Collection, LondonFor a mirror of the period incorporating similar pierced scroll carving see, Graham Child, World Mirrors 1650-1900, Sotheby's Publications, 1990, page 114, plate 140. Condition Report: Both mirrors with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits (see images). Gilding has been refreshed. Some minor evidence of old worm to backs. Gilding with the expected wear, chips and losses. One mirror with old glued repairs to curved foliate element of the surmount and the central pierced element to the lower edge (see images). Mirror plates are later replacements. they both have some depletion and bloom. Backboards are replaced. Some old screw holes to backs from previous fixtures.
