‡A PAIR OF ITALIAN MITTEN GAUNTLETS, THE CUFFS EARLY 16TH CENTURY each formed of a medially ridged flared tubular cuff of 'hourglass' form and closed at the inside of the wrist by rivets, shaped to the base of the thumb and formed at its upper edge with an inward turn (the right trimmed), later metcarpal-plates, and two later finger-plates 26.6 cm; 10 1/2 in (2) Provenance Sixth Count of Asalto, Guadamur Castle, near Toledo, before 1893 Ambrose Monell, Tuxedo Park, New York, circa 1905 Henry Furmage, London George F.
