A PAIR OF MONUMENTAL FRENCH SEVRES STYLE ORMOLU-MOUNTED PORCELAIN VASES, LATE 19TH CENTURY

each of baluster form, two-handled, the handles formed as scrolling acanthus leaves and laurels with suspensions, the turquioise body centered with a cartouche depicting scenes of courtship, the verso an allegorical still life with musical instruments and doves, apocryphal overglaze blue factory mark under cover; overall height of each: 100 cm (39 3/8 in.)

CONDITION
The vases are in overall good condition. The handle mount slightly loose on one. Darkening and minor verdigris to the crevices of the ormolu. Scattered losses to the gilt in places, most apparent in the fifth catalogue image. Fine age-appropriate scuffs and scratches overall. Inspection under UV light shows scattered areas of losses to the central cartouches, also apparent in catalogue images (such as the woman's arm in the second photograph).

N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale. Please note that any condition statement regarding works of art is given as a courtesy to our clients in order to assist them in assessing the condition. The report is a genuine opinion held by Shapiro Auctions and should not be treated as a statement of fact. The absence of a condition report or a photograph does not preclude the absence of defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of any others. Shapiro Auctions, LLC., including its consultants and agents, shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
