A PAIR OF VICTORIAN CAST IRON MEDUSA HEAD DOOR STOPS, SCOTTISH, FALKIRK IRON CO, MARKED, CIRCA 1875, each cast with a paired serpents entwined loop handle continuing down to the screaming winged mask of Medusa with writhing serpents hair, raised on a conforming molded base, verso impressed kite date lozenge mark and "FALKIRK PL 26554 No 146." Height: 14" Width: 14 5/8" Depth: 6 1/2" Note: Falkirk Foundry Co. located in Falkirk Scotland, was originally set up in 1810 and by 1819 was established as the Falkirk Iron Company. Over the ensuing years the company survived various hardships until 1961 when it was dissolved and absorbed by Allied. In 1981 the Falkirk Iron Works foundry closed its doors.
