A PARCEL-GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF GARUDA
The finely cast figure depicts Garuda, powerfully modeled with his arms and wings outstretched, his talons grasping the intertwined snake bodies of two attendant figures, the group backed by an openwork mandorla, richly gilt overall. The front of the base bears the inscription 'Da Qing Qianlong nian jing zao', 'devotedly made during the Qianlong reign of the Great Qing', while the bottom of the base is incised with ‘Hei Da Peng ' (another name for Garuda).
