(A) PENNSYLVANIA PERCUSSION LONG RIFLE SIGNED J.G.

Bedford County, Pennsylvania Kentucky-style percussion rifle made by Jacob Breigle. Jacob Breigle worked in Queen, Bedford County Pennsylvania circa 1850. Rifle features a full octagon rifled barrel with rifle sights signed in script "J. Breigle". Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including a four piece Bedford style "Q" finial patchbox with five piercings and engraving. Engraving is very heavy handed and possibly done by Breigle's apprentice John Nicholas Medasie. Gun has 21 coin silver engraved inlays including an Eagle on the cheekpiece and a rotary teardrop design behind the cheek. Percussion hand-forged engraved Bedford County "Rat Tail" lock with high spur hammer. Original hardwood ramrod with threaded tip for cleaning jig. CONDITION: Metal retains original in the white finish with some freckling. Brass has not been cleaned and has a golden color appearance. Stock has original high gloss hand-rubbed finish with burnout behind nipple area with possible linseed oil application. Missing one heart inlay on right wrist with balance tarnishing. Small crack from lock to trigger on right side, which seems to be stable. Replaced 15" section on left forestock near nosecap. Small piece of wood replaced on front of lock.
