A robust example, with polished antler grips and steel pommel, the guard embellished with gold inlay. The massive blade long, heavy and shallowly curved, wrought of fine Persian black wootz and inscribed in a double cartouche with ASSAD ALLAH and numerals, possibly a date. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel suspension bands inlaid en suite with the guard. Mid-18th century. Minor wear, leather rubbed. Overall length 93.5 cm / 36 3/4". Condition III
