[ translate ]

A PLASTER CAST OF TWO GOTHIC ARCHITECTURAL ARCHES FROM THE TRENTA ALTAR
AFTER JACOPO DELLA QUERCIA (1367-1438)
LATE 19TH CENTURY, AFTER A CIRCA 1415-20 ORIGINAL
Representing upper sections of niches, with twin pointed and moulded arches surmounted with draped fragmentary figures
105cm high, 90cm wide

Provenance: almost certainly from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

Catalogue note: these sectional casts are after Jacopo della Quercia's original altar in the Chapel of San Riccardo at the Church of San Frediano, Lucca

Condition Report:
Small chips and losses to extremities, protruding foliage and moulding overall.
The lot is fragmentary, and lacking figures' heads. One has an iron support protruding from the neck which would have once held the head. The other appears to have been repaired to the upper portion. Chipping to each protruding side edge, particularly to the right-hand side where there are larger losses.
Areas of the darker tint remain, though it has also worn away in places.
