A POLISHED SAUROPOD DINOSAUR FOSSIL BONEthe large cross-section of bone exhibiting the highly desirable brilliant red agate. The beauty of this is the result of fossilised bone from dinosaurs in which the cellular structure has been replaced with quartz, leaving the bone structure intact. Between 66-228 million years old. Mounted in black frame with mount and glass to front. Dimensions - slab measures 6.7 inches (17 cms) long; 3.7 inches (9.3 cms wide); 0.3 inches (0.7cms) thick. Frame measures 13 inches by 11 inches.Provenance - privately collected, prepared and polished by an octogenarian amateur Paleontologist in the USA. Primarily, smaller pieces are made into cabochons for jewellery. It is particularly unusual to find such a large slab, representing a complete transverse cross-section of a bone.Please see lot 55 for a polished bone cabochon.
