A POLYCHROME-PAINTED ENAMELLED SILVER AND COPPER QALYAN CUP WITH QAJAR COUPLE Iran, 19th century Of typical flaring cylindrical shape, with an everted rim, the base, rim, and interior enhanced with silver mounts, the exterior painted in polychrome enamels and gold, alternating large roundels with gol-o-bolbol (rose and nightingale) motifs and oval portrait medallions with gold beaded frames, the portraits depicting a noble Qajar youth with a cane and drinking cup, and a courtly pink-clad maiden with gold jewellery on her head and a drinking cup in her left hand, all set against a cobalt blue ground with stylised gilt rosettes and foliage, 9cm diam. and 6cm high.
