Signed Thiermay, Circa 1720-30
With russet barrels (some wear to gilding) each with sighting flat over much of its length to the brass fore-sight, one flat signed in gilt capitals, the brass sights each centred on engraved and gilt scrolling foliage, breeches each chiselled with a Classical warrior and foliage against gilt grounds, and framed by engraved and gilt foliage, brass-lined touch-holes, brass-covered gilt tangs grooved for sighting, border engraved bevelled locks and cocks chiselled and gilt (some wear) with foliage, chiselled steels, figured moulded full stocks each carved with foliage along the fore-end and behind the barrel tang (one butt broken through), mounts cast and chased in relief and comprising pierced foliate side-plates each involving a seated Classical figure and centred on a portrait bust, pierced escutcheons (one replaced) en suite, engraved spurred pommels each with portrait busts and masks framed by foliage, rounded caps en suite, faceted trigger-guards each with pierced foliate finial (one replaced) above a demi-mask and with a female portrait medallion between foliage on the bow, faceted ramrod-pipes, the rear ones each with a monster-head, scroll triggers, original horn-capped wooden ramrods, one with iron worm, and retaining much original gilding (2)
