With two-stage sighted barrels (light rust patination), plain tangs each with back-sight (one incomplete), rounded locks each signed in capitals (one signature refreshed), figured full stocks (one with minor old splits on one side at the muzzle, one butt broken through) each with raised apron around the barrel tang, mounts comprising pierced foliate border engraved side-plates, vacant escutcheons en suite, spurred pommels each with ovoidal cap, trigger-guards each with rounded finial, single turned baluster ramrod-pipes, and brass-capped wooden ramrods, one with steel worm, London proof marks and barrelsmith's mark of James 1 Barbar (2)

James 1 Barbar, son of Lewis, was apprenticed to his father in 1714, free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1722, and elected Master in 1742. Appointed Gentleman Armourer to King George II in 1741, he died in 1773
