A Pair of Cast Brass Peacock Bookends

Height: 5 1/4 inches Width: 4 3/4 inches. A matching pair of cast metal bookends featuring a stylized peacock motif. The birds are depicted in relief with fanned semi-circular tail feathers, standing on small rounded bases. The tail feathers are detailed with incised eye patterns and textured plumes. The bases feature a stepped profile with a small rectangular cartouche at the front containing vertical ribbing. The metal shows a yellowish tone where the dark, aged patina is worn, consistent with cast brass or bronze. The reverse of each bookend is flat and smooth. The underside of the bases shows a rough, granular surface typical of the sand-casting process. No maker names, signatures, or foundry stamps are present on the surfaces or the undersides. The visible ruler indicates the height of each piece is approximately 5 1/4 inches. The width at the broadest part of the tail feathers measures approximately 4 3/4 inches.
