£10
A Pair of Large Cut Crystal Claret Jugs with Flame Stoppers.
A pair of matching cut crystal claret jugs or decanters, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The set includes:
Two matching jugs, each featuring a tall, slender neck decorated with a vertical pillar-cut pattern. The globular main bodies are deeply cut with a repeating pattern of large circular ox-eye thumbprint medallions set within star-cut panels, separated by vertical notched ribbing. The bases are finished with large multi-point stars. The smooth, elegantly curved handles are applied to the neck and shoulder. The glass exhibits high clarity and light refraction consistent with lead crystal. The tall, ribbed, flame-style stoppers and the inner necks show ground, frosted surfaces to ensure a precision-fitted seal. There are no visible maker's marks, signatures, or etched marks on either piece.
Height: 39.5 cm.
More Information
The items appear to be in good overall condition. There is a small visible chip to the pointed tip of one stopper (photo 5). The glass displays excellent clarity with no significant cloudiness or internal calcium deposits visible in the main bodies. The ground joints show minor age-related wear from use (photo 4).
