A Pair of Louis XVI Style Giltwood Marquises
MERCIER FRÈRES, PARIS, 19TH CENTURY

Height 39 1/2 x width 32 x depth 24 inches. Furniture
Both chairs are in good solid condition. Only minor losses of gilt overall commensurate with normal wear and tear. Upholstery is also in excellent condition.

Mercier Frères

Mercier Frères was a distinguished Parisian design studio, upholsterer and furniture manufacturer, located at 100 faubourg Saint-Antoine. It was founded in 1828 by André Mercier and closed in 1985.

Specializing in period and finely customed furniture, the firm supplied numerous European and Eastern courts, and particularly the Spanish Crown and the Persian royal family.

Mercier Frères participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1868 and 1900. In 1914, the firm opened a branch in Buenos Aires, and later a store, the Palais de Marbre, at 7712 avenue des Champs-Élysées in 1920. In 1927, a branch was opened in New York at 232-236 E. 59th Street.
