A Pale Celadon Jade ‘Grape Bunch’ Pendant, Republic Period, 33AT
This finely modelled jade pendant is carved from pale celadon nephrite with warm russet skin retained on the upper leaf section, shaped as a plump cluster of grapes sheltered beneath a detailed veined leaf with a small suspension hole at the apex. The grape motif symbolises abundant progeny, fertility and endless prosperity in traditional Chinese symbolism. The jade features a soft pale celadon body with naturally occurring yellowish-russet skin, and tiny scattered dark specks within the stone. It is smoothly polished with rounded high-relief carving to render each individual grape berry, with fine incised lines detailing the leaf venation. Dimensions: 7 cm x 4.5 cm
