A Pale Celadon Nephrite Landscape Plaque with Russet Skin, 49AR
This rectangular jade plaque features softly rounded corners. One side is smooth and plain, showcasing natural warm russet skin and soft cloud-like inclusions within the pale celadon nephrite. The reverse is carved in relief with a detailed mountain waterscape scene: layered peaks, pine trees, pavilions, a bridge and figures boating on the river, making clever use of the natural russet skin to accent the landscape. The landscape motif symbolises peace, seclusion and harmonious nature in traditional Chinese art.
