A Portuguese white metal and carnelian hourglass holder, Porto, 1938-1984, with maker's mark of David Ferreira, Porto, marked for .833 standard silver, the circular base and top connected by three supports each with addorsed bust figures set with carnelians, the openwork rim of the top and bottom also with small carnelians, the top with a coiled snake and set into each end a carnelian intaglio, one of a wheatsheaf and the other a bird on a branch and the word "LIDERRE", 25cm. high, gross weight approx. 24.5oz
