A Powder Blue and Gilt Hexagonal Bottle Vase

Of hexagonal baluster form, with gilt decoration around the body of a mountainous landscape scene on each side, separated by prunus and bamboo, the neck with further prunus, bamboo and orchids, all against a powder blue ground, set between diaper-pattern bands, flanked by a pair of stylised archaistic dragon handles, the base unglazed. Period: 18th century. Height: 40 cm.

Wladimir Simon Semcesen (1906‑1969) born in Austria Hungary, settled in Oslo, Norway in 1936. In the 1950’s and 1960’s before the Cultural Revolution in China, he acquired works of art in China that he brought back to Europe.
