A Powder Blue and Gilt Hexagonal Bottle Vase

Of hexagonal baluster form, with gilt decoration around the body, one side with a pair of mandarin ducks and a large butterfly, the other side with a scene of a boat on a lake surrounded by mountains, separated by prunus sprays, the neck with further prunus, all against a powder blue ground, set between lotus scroll bands, flanked by a pair of stylised archaistic dragon handles. Period: 18th century. Height: 40 cm.

Wladimir Simon Semcesen (1906‑1969) born in Austria Hungary, settled in Oslo, Norway in 1936. In the 1950’s and 1960’s before the Cultural Revolution in China, he acquired works of art in China that he brought back to Europe.
