The mounted soldier wearing a hussar or dragoon's uniform, the horse with a decorated saddle-cloth, standing four square on the high base, gently lobed and tapering with tooled geometric pattern, washed in a green glaze, 9 in. (24cm) high

This model is clearly derived from an earlier lead-glazed version in colored clays, see the two examples in the Captain R K Price Collection, illustrated in Astbury, Whieldon and Ralph Wood Figures and Toby Jugs, 1922, pl.III, no.7 and pl.IX, no.26. One of Captain Price's models includes a very similar holster stamped 'GR' and closely-related incised ornament.
