A Pre-Columbian Style Polychrome Terracotta Effigy Vessel
A slip-painted terracotta zoomorphic vessel executed in the Pre-Columbian tradition, modeled with a globular body raised on a spreading circular foot. The upper section features a modeled animal head, likely a bat or feline, with sculpted features, flanked by a wide scalloped collar and surmounted by two tubular spouts joined by a high arched strap handle. The surface is decorated in polychrome red, cream, and dark brown slips with stylized geometric motifs, sunbursts, and spiraling scrollwork, enhanced overall with mottled surface patination imitating archaeological soil encrustation. The unglazed recessed base reveals the reddish-orange clay body.Height: 8inches; Width: 8 inches.
Condition
Surface wear and abrasions throughout consistent with intended antiqued appearance, with light scuffing and pigment loss to the raised rims, spouts, and handle. No major chips or structural breaks observed.
