A QAJAR LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ PEN CASE (QALAMDAN) WITH GOL-O-BOLBOL MOTIF Iran, 19th century With rounded ends and sliding tray, polychrome-painted and heightened in gold, decorated in horizontal format with the recurrent classical Qajar topos of the rose and nightingale (gol-o-bolbol), the top and sides filled with birds perched amidst a lush floral triumph of roses, daisies, hyacinths, irises, tulips, narcissi, and thick foliage against a gold ground, narrow gilt fretwork bands framing the composition, the underside and inner tray with stylised gilt lotus and rosette sprays against a bright red ground, 24.5cm long.Click here to share:
