A QUEEN ANNE WALNUT BUREAU BOOKCASECIRCA 1710The mirror panelled doors opening to an adjustable shelf above an arrangement of short drawers and pigeon holes, the lower section with a hinged fall opening to a tooled leather inset writing surface, a well section with sliding cover and an arrangement of pigeon holes and short drawers208cm high, 102cm wide, 58cm deepCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Various old splits, chips and losses (see images). Old veneer repairs in places. Bevelled mirror plates appear original. There is no evidence of them being changed and they bear the depletion, bloom, grey spots and losses consistent with age. Metalware replaced. One key present and operates the lock to the doors. No key present for drawers, but all locks are open. there are plugged holes visible where previous handles and escutcheons sat. Later leather inset surface to interior of fall. The slide to the interior is lacking its handle. One candle slide is lacking its stopper and can be pulled out completely. Various old ink stains to interior of the fall section. Hinges to the fall have been replaced and there are patches of replacement veneer covering where the hold hinges sat. Some later small nails securing the strips of moulding to the sides of the lower section.Later blocks to the centres of the two long drawers. There are two later small blocks of timber to the sides of the interior which act as a rest for the fall when closed. Later tape applied to gaps between backboards.One backboard to the lower section is detached but present. Some evidence of old worm.
