A Queen Anne black lacquered and gilt Chinoiserie writing box, early 18th century, of domed rectangular form, the hinged cover with a raised figural scene of men in traditional costume in a garden, above an elaborately engraved lockplate, opening to a speckled ground interior, 7.5cm high, 30cm wideCondition Report: Usual marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.Some losses to the sides, where the underlying timber is exposed, and the gilt has rubbed down to an underlying layer of green in some of the raised areas. Potential refreshments to ebonised top.The cover doesn't sit entirely flush, and there doesn't appear to be an internal fixture for the lock behind the lockplate. The interior has one or two old chips and cracks.The underside is made from two panels where there is a slight gap.Condition Report Disclaimer
