A RARE 1871 LOCOMOTIVE TRADE CATALOG WITH REAL PHOTOS
A rare and important trade catalog for The Grant Locomotive Works (1867 - 1895). The intact bound volume with pebbled red paper-covered boards, ornate debossed designs and gold lettering, the title page describes the compendium as A DESCRIPTION OF LOCOMOTIVES MANUFACTURED BY THE GRANT LOCOMOTIVE WORKS OF PATTERSON N.J.
The first half is essentially a collection of twelve builder's photos along with specifications. Each image is an actual albumen photograph. The remainder is an interesting documentary of locomotive construction in photographs with more specifications. There are thirty mounted photographs in total.
The Grant Locomotive Works built about 1,888 locomotives.
