A RARE BRONZE FIGURE OF MAHAVAIROCANA.
Central Java, 9th/10th c. Height 21 cm.
Bronze with later gilding on red lacquer. Seated on a lotus pedestal with staggered leaves he has raised the hands in bodhyagri-mudra. The figure itself is solid cast, the throne is hollow. The eyes are inlaid with little pearls, originally probably with silver.
Provenance: Old European private collection (remains of an old sticker at the back). European art market.
