A RARE CHINESE ARCHAIC BRONZE 'FU GUI' ZUN VESSEL

商晚期 父癸尊
The vessel cast with a flared mouth and a splayed foot, featuring bold and crisply detailed relief casting of two horned taotie masks with bulging eyes, set against a leiwen background and divided by narrow flanges bordered by double bowstring bands. Inscribed on the base of the interior are two characters, "Fu Gui" (Father Gui), overall with dark brownish-green patina with some attractive malachite encrustation. Accompanied with Japanese wood box. Late Shang Dynasty period.

Height: 7 1/8 in (18 cm) Width: 5 1/4 in (13.3 cm)

Provenance: 1.Sotheby's New York, Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, September 12th, 2012, Lot 164
2. From the collection of Eckhardt family collection, collected by Mary and Richard Eckhardt in Japan in 1940-1950s.
