A RARE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE AND COPPER-RED 'LOTUS AND EGRET' DISH Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period 清康熙 青花釉裡紅一路連科圖盤 The delicately-potted shallow dish painted in broad brushstrokes, the present dish depicts a small egret in a lotus pond scene where the bird is perched on a lotus branch amongst lotus flowers, buds, leaves and tall grass sprays, its beak and the lotus flowers painted in underglaze copper-red, the base with a six-character Xuande mark enclosed within a double-circle, 16cm diameter - PROVENANCE: From the esteemed Collection of Mr. Basil Ionides and the Hon. Mrs. Nellie Ionides; Thence by descent to Lady Camilla Panufnik née Jessel, (b. Furthermore, she generously bequeathed this historical treasure, along with numerous pieces from her extensive art collection, to the local council, now known as the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Nellie was the second child and eldest daughter of Sir Marcus Samuel and his wife Fanny (née Benjamin). Her father, Marcus, had notably served as Lord Mayor of London and established the Shell Transport and Trading Company, later evolving into Royal Dutch Shell. Nellie's passion for art burgeoned from an early age, particularly focusing on Chinese porcelain and 18th-century artworks.
