λ A RARE CHINESE BONE AND IVORY-INLAID HONGMU AND ZITAN 'XIWANGMU' PANEL 19th / Early 20th Century 十九或二十世紀 紅木與紫檀百寶嵌西王母掛屏 The rectangular hongmu panel set with carved and painted bone worked to depict the Queen Mother of the West walking in a procession with her two attendants, one clutching a large ripe peach, the other bearing a staff tied with a bundle of scrolls, all walking alongside a deer as it tows an ornate cart loaded with a large vase bearing a lotus leaf, the group travelling through a rocky gorge formed with carved zitan rockery dotted with flowers, sprigs of lingzhi and pine trees, overhead Shou Lao sits atop the back of a majestic phoenix as it soars through a cluster of polychrome clouds and past the Hehe Erxian twins, the sky dotted with colourful bats poking out of the cloud formations, the upper section centered with an inscribed imperial poem together with two carved Qianlong seals, all enclosed by a hardwood frame decorated with a band of key fret 102cm high, 71cm wide 銘文：龍鱗迣鸞路，指日向東南。明庶風迎面，今朝春澤覃。太昊新司節，鴻禧乃大來。馮生欣萬物，即即複皚皚。歲徳已逢蔔留熟，日幹又慶葉金穰。願綏新歲如舊歲，庶致民康與物康。乙酉（1765年）春帖子 鈐印：「乾」、「隆」 - Ivory submission reference: CW68XKY4 象牙申報編號： CW68XKY4 - PROVENANCE: Previously in the collection of Oleg P. From 1948 to 1958 Gus Fletcher served in the Colonial Police in Malaya, and latterly was Assistant Superintendent of Police and Area Special Branch Officer in the Kuala Pilau and Bahau Police Districts of Negri Sembilan. He was awarded the George Medal in 1957 after a combined police and military operation code-named “Googly” during the Malayan Emergency.
