The heavy, finely-wrought head with faceted socket with rectangular aperture for a banner beneath a central block pierced with a cross on a stippled ground from which springs paired heads on short, faceted shafts, of leaf-form, each with a high central ridge and acute thrusting tip. On its original hardwood haft with coiled iron counterweight to butt. 19th century. Minor wear, warping to haft. Overall length 177 cm / 69 1/2". Condition II
