A RARE PAIR OF CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL MAGPIES ON STANDS
17th/18th century
The birds naturalistically modelled with gilt-bronze beaks and large eyes, the bodies delicately enamelled in black and white, the wings neatly folded with finely detailed feathers, perched on wood stands.
The largest 28cm (11in) long. (2).
十七/十八世紀 銅胎掐絲琺瑯喜鵲 一對
The Chinese term for magpies is (xique 喜鵲), which literally means 'bird of joy'. The magpie has long been regarded as a bird of good omen in Chinese culture.
