A seldom-encountered Tausug (Sulu) form capable of delivering an exceptional blow. The barong-type grip carved of a single section of hardwood with metal ferrule and bands of braided cord. The thick, straight blade expanding continuously toward the tip with sloped terminal, showing what appear to be traces of forged construction throughout, and retaining much original sharpness. In its figured banti wood scabbard with okkir-carved throat. First quarter of the 20th century. Minor wear, ferrule damaged. Overall length 71.3cm. Condition III
