(A) RARE POSSIBLY UNIQUE AMERICAN FLINTLOCK SINGLE SHOT

The barrel is of standard 1826 configuration, stamped deeply LT at breech. The lock is of 1826 configuration and is stamped only LT. The highly figured, striped maple full stock has no inspectors' marks. Trigger guard of military type. Buttcap with engraved floral design and buttcap screw. Barrel band of military type. Silver thumb piece is period engraved with the owner's initials CTC. Pistol appears to be reconverted from percussion at an early date. CONDITION: Action is sticky. Bore is good. Ramrod is a modern replacement. What distinguishes this pistol is its provenance, first listed in a catalog from Walpole Galleries, November 20, 1924, Lot 62 "A rare American officer's horse pistol," illustrated on page 17. Pistol appears in Theodore Dexter's 35 year scrapbook of Miles Standish collection, Volume 2 Plate 55. As distinguished a provenance as any American pistol could hope to have.
