A RARE SET OF SIX GEORGE III SILVER DESSERT SPOONS
A RARE SET OF SIX GEORGE III SILVER DESSERT SPOONS
by Peter & Jonathan Bateman, London 1790, Old English pattern, crested. (6) 17cm long, 6.2 troy ounces gross
The PB/IB maker's Peter & Jonathan Bateman mark is highly desirable and rarely found on English silver. Its scarcity is due to the short-lived partnership between the two sons of Hester Bateman following her retirement in 1790; Jonathan died within six months of the partnership's founding. All pieces emanating from this partnership were made during the same date letter year of 1790/91.
A shallow dint to one bowl. The marks are clear to the underside of each stem. In generally good condition.
