(A) RARE SHARPS-BORCHARDT MODEL 1878 SHORT RANGE RIFLE.

Only 153 short range rifles of this type were manufactured from 1878 to 1880. Rust blued round barrel marked on the top flat with script "Old Reliable" trademark and 1-line Sharps address. Fitted with globe front sight, Lawrence patent ladder rear, and short Vernier aperture tang sight. Standard case hardened Borchardt patent receiver marked on the left with patent and maker information. Checkered walnut forend with Schnabel tip. Checkered pistol grip walnut stock with correct checkered "SRC" monogrammed shotgun butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Barrel retains significant portions of fading original blue drifting to patina. Reviver displays an overall silvery patina with some cleaned oxidation spots. Stocks have a worn appearance with numerous impressions from use. Bore fine, bright with sharp rifling. Fine mechanics.
