(A) RELIEF CARVED FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE ATTRIBUTED

Kentucky style raised carved rifle attributed to "John Graeff" of Lancaster Pennsylvania circa 1773 to 1808. Octagon rifled swamped barrel with rifle sights and remnants of Graeff's signature on the barrel flat. Flintlock with waterproof pan and lined design to rear. Full curly maple stock with 2" wide butt with raised floral back to back "C" scroll carving. Gun has beavertail carving behind lock and lockplate with nice moulding line on forestock terminating in a raised floral design at the tailpipe. Flintlock is controlled by a single handmade turned tail trigger covered with large bow brass trigger guard. Brass furniture including a 4-piece patchbox with typical Lancaster style "Daisy" finial with lid release in top of buttplate. Comes with replacement hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Gun has been professionally restored with added finish and wood along the forestock. Lock is a reconversion using period parts with barrel having pits from percussion ignition welded up and finished. Wood has shrinkage around lockplate. Metal has aged looking patina with some light pitting. Dark bore with visible rifling with lock functioning but is a little sticky. Gun has great look and is a good example of an early Lancaster-style rifle.
