A RELIEF-CARVED MARBLE 'GRAND TOUR' MODEL OF THE TOMB OF NÆVOLEIA TYCHE, ITALIAN, SECOND QUARTER 19TH CENTURY

on a rectangular black hardstone base
12.5cm. high, 11.5cm. wide, 8.5cm. deep; 5in., 4½in., 3¼in.

Condition Report:
Generally good. Ingrained dirt and some staining from this. Chip to reverse (old). Old marks from moulded top. One scrolled detail to the top loose.
The inscription on this model differs from what is actually carved on the tomb. The actual fullsize tomb inscription is loosely translated as follows: 'Nævoleia Tyche, freedwoman of Lucius Naevoleius, for herself and for Gaius Munatius Faustus, member of the Brotherhood of Augustus and suburban official, to whom on account of his distinguished services the city council, with the approval of the people, granted a seat of double width. This monument Naevoleia Tyche built in her lifetime also for the freedmen and freedwomen of herself and of Gaius Munatius Faustus'.
