[ translate ]

A RENAISSANCE REVIVAL PARCEL GILT AND PAINTED WOOD MANTLE MIRROR, CIRCA 1870s, the eared rectangular frame centering a conforming antique mirror plate within molded trim and palm leaf lappet paneled banding, surmounted by a reticulated crest enclosing a smiling bearded satyr mask amidst stylized scrolling strapwork suspending a drapery swag, within swirling acanthus leaf stems flanked by disc shields suspending tapered fruiting pendants. Height: 7' 3" Width: 57" Provenance: Property from a Prominent River Oaks Estate Collection, Houston, Texas Property from a Prominent River Oaks Estate Collection, Houston, Texas
Condition Report: In unfinished restoration condition with areas of paint removal, repairs, age cracks, flaking paint, overpainted gilding, considerable surface buildup, losses, chips, marks, and scratches throughout. The bones and decorative details are mostly in good shape except for areas of the frame trim and more importantly, the swirling acanthus stems on the crest. This mirror would be very impressive if restored properly and the estimate takes this cost into consideration. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
